The beginning

If I were to start at the true beginning this would be a book not a blog post. I knew I wanted to have a blog page for BudFolk before the first scent was even created, partly because I love to yap, but really because this whole thing is deeply personal. I may not know my calling yet but I know I want to create in more ways than one and this is one of the many ways I have created and will continue to create. Now that it’s out there, I’m so extremely proud because I have treated every part of this baby as a creative process, I’ve treated mixing the scents as a witch’s potion and drawing the artwork as an act of real self expression. Every detail is crucial so if you’d like you can read into it, give it your own meaning and sense according to your own reference, that’s what it was made for. But this isn’t just for those who give meaning to everything, I’m lowkey delusional like that, it’s for the full collective of people who have a need for expressive everyday items because art isn’t just to be watched from a distance, it’s to be used and enjoyed on daily basis. If I were to inflate my own role, I’d say this is my ultimate goal, to make everything an art piece that’s well thought out and intentional. A bottle of perfume doesn’t have to be just a bottle of mystery substance, it can be made with an idea in mind, decorated in art and used to say something, that’s the way beautiful things were always made. I’m personally over the minimalist and detached production of impersonal items as much as I am over untouchable art. And so I wanted to make a little bottle that no one would be eager to throw away once it’s empty, this is for you to have and to hold.

Ideally, I’d ask everyone to set an intention every time they spray it, to treat it as a personal ritual or even pretend that this is your own personal magic potion, but I recognize that not everyone is into that. Some would just need a new perfume without all the theatrics and that’s okay because these things do smell so freaking good. I would, however, like to express that everyone involved in this project, aka my friend and partner Nourhan and I, have set intentions with this and put ourselves fully into it. We’ve thought of the girls and the women and the probably not many men who are going to use it and we’ve made it happen with those people in mind. So set an intention or don’t, we welcome you to the BudFolk collective. We’ll soon make other beautiful things for you to enjoy.

And to Nourhan, my friend and partner, I am eternally grateful for every brilliant idea you have brought to the table and every full day we have spent at your place making this happen. We have joked before that we have been in each other’s lives through every breakup ever, I am now excited to be sharing this new beginning with you as my partner in creation just as you have been my partner in more things than I could count through the years. You are a remarkable woman.
